LIVE. WORK. BUILD.
The Department of Informatics at UC Irvine seeks to make a positive difference in how people live, work, and build in a digital world. Wherever technology touches people, it must be designed with ultimate care. This requires mastery of technological knowhow and a deep appreciation of the social, cultural, and organizational forces at work. To that end, we study interactions among information technologies and people, create innovative information technologies that serve the diverse needs of society, and educate our students to be leaders in these endeavors. With technology impacting and enabling so much of our lives, we asked our faculty what drives their research.
LIVE. WORK. BUILD.
Technology touches all aspects of our lives, shaping the way we live, the way we work and the way we build the foundations of a global society. Informatics is a window into this dynamic relationship, examining the interplay of people and technology and what it means for our collective future. Here in the Department of Informatics, we collaborate with partners and communities worldwide as we design new technology and study both technology use and its effect on society. We work across a diverse group of domains, including healthcare, software development, education, sustainability, gaming, civic institutions, accessibility, and more.
